Happy Saint Patrick's day!

Hello, everybody!

Il 17 marzo, in Irlanda si festeggia St. Patrick.

Al tempo di St. Patrick in Irlanda, la gente seguiva ancora la religione pagana dei druidi. Patrizio era nato in Gran Bretagna, ma venne venduto come schiavo in Irlanda, poi riuscì a fuggire e trascorse parecchi anni in un monastero. Quindi tornò in Irlanda per predicare il Cristianesimo.

La leggenda racconta che, con un discorso tenuto su una collina, St. Patrick scacciò i serpenti dall’Irlanda! (effettivamente non ce ne sono!). Diventò poi vescovo d’Irlanda e morì il 17 marzo 461.

Il simbolo ufficiale dell’Irlanda è l’arpa.

Il simbolo più noto è però lo SHAMROCK, che porta fortuna.

Si dice che St. Patrizio usasse le tre foglie dello shamrock per spiegare  cosa fosse la Trinità di Padre, Figlio e Spirito Santo.

L’Irlanda è nota come “The Emerald Isle”, l’isola di smeraldo: pare che nella campagna irlandese si possano contare 40 tonalità di verde!

Anche se il colore ufficiale dell’Irlanda è il blu (!), il giorno di St. Patrick la gente festeggia decorando con shamrocks e tanto tanto verde.

In Irlanda ci sono molte storie, come questa:

Il Leprechaun è un tipo misterioso, un folletto irlandese un po’ scontroso. Per guadagnarsi da vivere fa le scarpe, poi conserva tutti i suoi soldi in un pentolone, pieno di monete d’oro, nascosto alla fine dell’arcobaleno. Trovarlo sarebbe proprio una bella fortuna!!

Se senti il rumore del martello, potrebbe essere il folletto che fa le scarpe: trovalo e ti dirà il suo segreto, se riesci a non perderlo di vista nemmeno un secondo. E’ velocissimo e, se riesce a sfuggire il tuo sguardo per meno di un secondo, fuggirà via e tu avrai perso la tua occasione.
